Het is niet precies te achterhalen wanneer de Doopsgezinde Gemeente in Makkum is ontstaan. Er zijn berichten over meer dan 25 dopelingen in 1613. Dit betekent dat er op dat moment in Makkum al een goed draaiende gemeente moet zijn geweest.

Dit is voor ons voldoende reden om tegelijk met het vieren van het 100 jarig bestaan van ons gebouw, te vieren dat er in Makkum al 400 jaar Doopsgezinden zijn.

Ter gelegenheid van dit feest maken we een boek over de gemeente. In dit boek komen allerlei verhalen over de geschiedenis van de gemeente, maar ook over de gemeente nu.

Het tot stand komen van het boek kunt u volgen in de berichten op deze pagina. Steeds zullen verschillende stukjes geschiedenis gepresenteerd worden.

Tegelijk een oproep: wie heeft nog herinneringen aan de gemeente in Makkum. Misschien hebt u ooit de zondagschool bezocht of is een verre voorouder afkomstig uit Makkum? Stuur ons een verhaal. Alle verhalen dragen bij aan het verhaal van een gemeente die al vele jaren, zelfs eeuwen actief bezig is.

It is not possible to tell when exactly the Mennonite community in Makkum came into existence. But we have stories about baptism of more than 25 persons in the year 1613. One can conclude that there had to be a flourishing congregation already.

In 2010 we celebrate the 100 years anniversary of our church. We think it is a good occasion to celebrate the 400 years anniversary of our congregation too.

Because of that we are writing a book, together with all our members. There will be articles about the history, lots of photographs and others stories in the book. We hope to make the story complete with stories by former members all over the world.
